Opportunity Seekers As A Target Market

The most important thing any network marketer can do for their business is to identify who their target market is. Once you have figured that out, any MLM’er that wants to grow a massive home based business will want to get as many of those targeted leads as possible.

I’m sure that the successful network marketers out there would agree that the leads you use are what is going to grow your home based business. When you are looking for a lead list, you want to target people who are likely to already have an interest in what you have as well as some things in common with the customers that you already have.

What Should I Look At?

Some of the things you want to look at your existing customers for are: age, sex, income level, geographic area, magazine subscription, whether or not they have a credit card, if they have made any purchases via the Internet, or there may be other demographics like what kind of job they have.

You can make your lead list as simple or as complicated as you want to. If you are marketing a skin care product that fights wrinkles, you may only need to get a list of women over 40 and have purchased a similar product in the past 12 months.

But if you want to narrow it down a little further because you have noticed that your existing customers are of a certain income level, live in a certain part of the country, and have made at least one purchase via the Internet, then you can add those factors to your lead list in order to narrow down your target market.

What is the best way to get a hold of a list of these targeted prospects?

Actually, there are literally hundreds of places you can get your hands on mlm leads to market your product or service to. If you are comfortable with using the search engines on the Internet, then you can type in list brokers and come up with a very long list of companies more than willing to help you out.

One word of caution to my fellow network marketers. You have to be strong with your requirements. There are a few list brokers out there that think that you would do better with a list of home based business opportunity seekers rather that a list of people that you can sell your product or service to. Opportunity seekers are NOT your target market.  In fact “opportunity seeking” leads are the worst lead that I have ever tried to use.

I can hear it now so, let me spell it out for you.  I tried the cheap leads, I tried the free leads, I tried the double opt-in leads, I tried the real time leads, I tried them all!  Opportunity seeking leads are the worst lead.  Period!!  And my script wasn’t the problem either.  The problem was that I was trying to sell an opportunity.  People are always looking for a better opportunity.  If you actually do get someone to join your business because of the opportunity, they will quit before they even get started because the opportunity just isn’t their for them.
Opportunity Seekers Won’t Grow Your Business
When you find opportunity seekers to put into your network marketing business, you will hear all kinds of excuses as to why they aren’t working their business.  Does this sound familiar?  I don’t want to spend any money to grow my business.  If the product sells itself, why can’t  everyone I show it to see it?  I am waiting for some people that have to think about it.  I don’t want to pester my friends and family (actually, I agree with this one having already gone down this path.)  My company says that I can’t do any advertising so, how can I grow my business?  The economy is in shambles and noone wants to spend that kind of money.  My product is too expensive.  This list could go on for quite awhile.
The bottom line is that opportunity seekers are not going to grow your business.  You have to sell your product, get people to believe in your network marketing product or service and from those people, you find business builders.  You can certainly try to prospect others that are only in it for the opportunity but I want to give you a word of caution.  If you do go after opportunity seekers, be prepaired for the revolving door that you will cerntainly have.  As fast as they come in, you will have just as many going out.
Listen, you don’t have to pay attention to anything that I say.  I get it.  If your leaders are telling you that they are going after only opportunity seekers and they are having loads of success and if you want success you have to do what the MLM leaders are doing.  But here is the thing, they are having success with opportunity seekers only because they are successful.  When your prospect asks you how much money you are making and you do the “fake it until you make it” routine, they can hear that you are lying.  Hey, if you are really good at lying and don’t feel bad about not telling your prospects the truth, then go for it.  I wish you the best of luck.
But, if you want to have a solid home based business based on truth and being able to say that you are actually helping others, then work your home based business with the truth.  Sell, yourself as an expert in your product or service.  You know that you have a great product.  You know that you can help others with it so, get out there and help them.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how to grow your network marketing business.  You can get the skills needed to make it happen.  I know it for a fact because I was a network marketer that dug herself into a big financial hole trying to grow a network marketing business using the methods taught by the leaders in my company.  I don’t blame them though.  I thank them for showing me what doesn’t work.
If you are ready to learn how to add 20-30 people a week into your business, let me know.  I would be happy to help you.  In fact, it is my passion to help other network marketers to succeed in business.
