A couple of weeks ago I was conducting a class on how a blog can help your network marketing business.  I made a recording of the class and I am now making it available to you to listen to.  It was a pretty intense class where I gave up a lot of MLM secrets that I hadn’t planned on sharing when I was preparing my training materials but as you know, I don’t hold anything back.

If you have been thinking about setting up a website for your network marketing business but aren’t sure just how to get started, you may want to consider blogging.  It’s a great platform to share your expertise and it’s pretty easy to set up and maintain.  Listen to the audio above and discover:

  • How to set up a blog for your network marketing business for FREE
  • How to find the right keywords to use in your blog posts to get more traffic to your site
  • What 3 things your blog should have to make the search engines happy (ie. Google)
  • How to monetize your blog easily
  • What to write about so that you become the “go to” person for information about your MLM product
  • What to put on your blog to attract more traffic

It really was an intense hour of training about blogging.  I was asked some very good questions and was all to happy to answer them.  Check it out for yourself and if you come up with some additional questions, I would be happy to answer yours as well.  Just leave a comment with your question and I will respond.

Note: On the audio there were a few sites that I mentioned and here are the links to those sites so you don’t have do the typing:

Test Blog for OSM – This is a blog that I set up so that the folks on the call could follow along.

Aweber- an autoresponder service that I use to create the data capture boxes on my blogs so that I can build a list of people that are interested in what I have.  An autoresponder is a must have for anyone that is using the Internet to market their network marketing business.  If you need an autoresponder, you can get a free trial by clicking on the link that I created for you.

Easy DIY Home Security - This is one of my other blogs that I did and it has a static home page.  Meaning the main page always looks the same.  Most blogs have the latest post on the main page that is always changing.

Wordpress – Blogging service that I use to create my blogs.  It is pretty easy to use and has a lot of cool features.  They even have a free version that you can try out.

Wordpress Themes/Plugins - Different themes and plugins were discussed during the class and you can look at those here.

Blogger – Another free blogging platform that you can use that is easy.

Blogging Your Network Marketing Business

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

A lot of network marketers want to be on the Internet but don’t really have the gift of building websites or the money to have one built for them.  Today, I am going to share with you how you can build a website for your network marketing business that:

  • You don’t have to spend a dime on
  • You don’t have to be a technical genius or even know what html is

This MLM Secret Business Tool is Called – Blogging

I guess the first thing I should do is tell you what a BLOG is.  A blog is a type of website where you can add regular entries.  Blogs started as a form of online diaries where people would keep track of their personal lives.  A friend of mine used a blog to track his weight loss journey.  It took him over a year to lose all of the weight he wanted and he kept track of his progress on his blog.  He posted weekly pictures of himself, how often he worked out, what exercises he was doing, what food he was eating, his struggles and his successes.

Today, blogs can be used for just about anything that you want.  You can use it as a place to put down the interesting things that your kids are doing so that out of state family members can stay up to date with what is going on or you can use a blog as a business tool for your network marketing business.

With a blog, you can share your network marketing product, your business building systems and/or your expertise.  Let’s say that you have a background in home security like I do.  You could build a blog where you share your expertise and help people with their security issues.  Here is the link to my other blog http://www.EasyDIYHomeSecurity.com.  It’s not in your traditional blog format so you may get an idea of how you can make your blog look like a regular website.

Benefits of Using a Blog for Your Network Marketing Business

There are a few benefits to using a blog for your network marketing business some of these benefits are:

  • Search engines love content and they love websites that change often.  Blogging gives you a simple way to add content to your site.  The more content that you have the more the search engines will like you.
  • Blogs are easy to build.  Really, you don’t have to be a computer geek to do it.  You don’t have to have any special software or know html or anything like that.   If you are a computer geek, then you can do some really cool things with your site but it’s not necessary to have a great website.
  • Blogs give you a simple platform to share your passion, your expertise, and your network marketing product.
  • You can make money with a blog.  There are a lot of ways that you can monetize your blog so that you can make money.  You can put Google Adsense on your site, sell advertizing space, sell affiliate products, etc.

I’m sure that there are more benefits to blogging than the ones that I have listed but you get the idea.  I happen to love blogs because they are so easy to build.  For example this site that you are on is a blog.  I used Wordpress to build it.  Now this site is one that I host myself and there are benefits to hosting your blog but it’s not mandatory.  If you are in the market for a good website hosting service, then I recommend Bluehost.  They are the service that I use to host all of my websites and they are very cheap (yes, I am an affiliate and that is one way that I monetize my site).

But if you are looking to have a free blog website then I would recommend that you use either www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com they both provide a great service and you can do a lot with a free blog.  There are some drawbacks to using a free service however.  Such as; your domain name will have an extension after it.  For example: http://howtobeonstage.blogspot.com/ , and you may be limited as far as the features that you site has but all in all they do a good job.

Well that’s it for today.  I hope you can see how having a blog can help your network marketing business.  It’s a great way to share your ideas, tips, and information about your network marketing product.  Stay tuned for more information about blogging because I will be sharing some things that your blog must have.

Why Most Network Marketers Fail

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Statistically speaking, the majority of people that get into network marketing won’t make any money.  Let’s take a quick look at some facts about the network marketing industry that you may not be aware of:

  • The success rate in this industry is less than 2%.  It doesn’t matter if you joined one of the top MLM companies, what your up line tells you or anyone else tells you, the chances of you making your network marketing business grow using what is currently taught is less than 2%.  Bugging your friends and family, passing out fliers (CDs, DVDs, business cards, etc.), dragging people to meetings and home parties, doesn’t work for most people and it isn’t likely to change just because you are excited about your opportunity.
  • The national average proves that most network marketers will put 2.5 people into their downline before they quit.  Why do they quit?  They quit because their MLM company only teaches them to use their warm market to market to.  Most people can make a list of their friends of family and come up with 100-200 names.  So out of that list you may get 2 or 3 people to sign up.
  • Most people quit working their network marketing business in 90-120 days.  Why would you stay in a business where you aren’t making any money? The retention rate goes to zero if you have nothing more to offer than a failing system.  After all of the hard work to getting people to join your network marketing business it is really discouraging to see so many people drop out.  How you are supposed to build momentum with such a high attrition rate?

These are the facts of network marketing that the top MLM companies don’t want you do know.  Do you want to know why the top MLM companies continue to teach things like making a list of your friends and family, passing out fliers and so on?

There are two reasons.  First, your MLM company has to provide some sort of training or people wouldn’t join in the first place.  Most of the people that join a MLM company and become a network marketer don’t have any sales experience and really don’t want to become something that looks like a pushy used car salesman.  (I apologize if you happen to be a used car salesman.  I meant no offense.)  So, MLM companies teach you to approach your friends and family and hand out fliers or DVD’s and tell you that the network marketing product sells itself.

The second reason the top MLM companies teach this way is because it works for them.  Think about it.  For every network marketing distributor that joins, they know that 2.5 more distributors will come on board.  Yes, most of them will quit but almost 20% will stay and continue to purchase the network marketing product.  Besides, it’s not their money they are spending to grow your business.

Don’t get me wrong.  Your MLM company isn’t out to hurt you.  They are out to make money.  If they told everyone that you would have to learn how to market and sell your network marketing product, most people wouldn’t sign up.  So, they teach methods that are very easy and simple for everyone to use and understand.  And yes, there are some people that can make money using these methods.  In fact, I’m pretty sure that they are part of the 2-5% that do succeed in network marketing and make it to the top of their MLM company.

Do 3-Way Calls Work?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

When I got started with my first network marketing company, I was told that I wouldn’t have to do any telling, selling or convincing.  I must admit that I was relieved to hear them say that because I didn’t have any experience in sales and frankly I didn’t really want to become a pushy salesperson.

At first I couldn’t understand how you were supposed to sell your network marketing product without doing any telling, selling or convincing but they were the experts and I was totally new to network marketing.  Part of the appeal of network marketing is that you are in business for yourself but not by yourself.  Your network marketing company will help you to succeed.  So, I was taught about:

Closing the Sale Without Having To Say A Word

Most network marketing companies call it the 3-way call.  This is where you call your upline sponsor while you have your prospect on the line and let them take over the sales process and do the closing.  You don’t have to say a word.  In fact, you are encouraged to keep your mouth shut during this process.

When I was introduced to this network marketing technique, I thought it was very cool.  I didn’t have to say a thing and someone else would make the sale for me.  I mean who wouldn’t want someone else to do the work and you get paid?

Six figures, here I come.

I got prospects to a presentation and I was even able to call them back and talk to them.  But then I had a problem, whenever I tried to call my upline to do a 3-way call, they were nowhere to be found.  I lost those prospects, my time, and the money that I spent getting the leads in the first place.  Did I do something wrong?

Yep, I didn’t make sure that I had someone to 3-way with before I called my prospects back.  No problem, I’ll just make sure that someone is available before I make my calls.  Now, I have a prospect on the line and someone from my upline (not one of the top dogs because they don’t do 3-way calls unless they benefit directly from the sale) but he’ll do.  So, it’s time to ask for the sale and he doesn’t actually ask the prospect if they are ready to get started.

With my next prospect, I get someone else to do the 3-way call with and this time they ask but they weren’t very enthusiastic about it.  I try someone else, and someone else, I get someone from my crossline and we make a pact to do 3-way calls for each other and ask for the sale and are available and still no sales.  I lost more prospects, more time, and more money.  Did I do something wrong?

MLM Secret – YOU have to close the sale

As much as I wanted to make those 3-way calls work, they just didn’t – at least not for me.  I’m sure they work for some people or the network marketing companies wouldn’t teach that technique.  The key to MLM selling is YOU.  YOU have to form the relationship with your prospect.  Your prospect has to be comfortable with YOU and trust YOU.  YOU have to be able to close the sale.

With that in mind, I am going to be writing more posts about closing the sale yourself.  Stay tuned for some really good stuff about creating the urgency to buy and some pretty cool closing techniques that I am excited to share with you.
