Be The Best Network Marketer I Can Be

It’s the beginning of a new year and I, like most people, have been thinking of my New Year’s resolution as it pertains to my network marketing business.  How can I be the best network marketer that I can be?  How do I make 2009 The Best Year Of My Network Marketing Life?

As with any journey it helps to have a plan.  So I have come up with a few steps to take to make my home based business the best it can be this year.  I would like to share my ideas with you in the hopes that I can help other network marketers grow their businesses.

The Best MLM Year Plan

The first step is to define what I would need to have in order for me to consider this the best year for my network marketing business.  For me- My destination is to create a home based business, where I can help at least 150 other network marketers to obtain what they want, need, or desire.

Step 2 To Creating My Best MLM Year

My second step was to come up with a specific goal that I could set for myself that will move me towards my network marketing vision.  For me- My goal is to help at least 3 people with their home based business each week.

When coming up with this goal it is important to be realistic.  For example: A lot of network marketers get into business thinking that they are going to be rich, when they haven’t ever earned more than $50,000 a year.  Just because the guy on stage makes it sound real easy (and at this point it is for them) doesn’t mean that you are going to start making money with your MLM business as soon as you get in.  That being said I know that I can connect with at least 3 people a week and help them with growing their MLM business.  I know this because I have done it already.

Step 3 To Creating My Best MLM Year

Step 3 to creating my best network marketing year is to put a date on when I want to achieve this goal.  For me- My home based business will be providing real help to at least 3 people a week by September of 2009.   I know that I can make a real one on one connection with at least 3 people a week but right now I have to improve on some of my skills in order to do that consistently.  Putting a date on it keeps me motivated towards my network marketing goal but at the same time I won’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen next week.  It takes time to master a new skill and I want to give myself that time.

Step 4 To Creating My Best MLM Year

The fourth step in creating my best network marketing year is to look at what skills I already have that will support me in reaching my goal.  For me- I am trained in the art and science of marketing, I have a clear vision of what I want, I enjoy helping others, and I am good at prospecting and closing.

Step 5 To Creating My Best MLM Year

Step five to creating my best network marketing year is to look at what skill I will need to develop in order to reach my goal.  For me- I will have to develop the discipline to stick to my schedule (I get distracted easily) I will have to improve my Internet skills, and I will have to improve my closing skills.  I am learning a lot of great stuff on how to build my home based business using the Internet but I still have a way to go and even though I consider myself to be good at closing, I would like to increase my percentage.

Step 6 To Creating My Best MLM Year

Step six to creating my best network marketing year is to find assistance, supports, and/or structures that I will need to put into place so that I can ensure that I stay on track.  For me- I ask myself at the end of week what did I accomplish.  I also will have to attend classes with On Stage Marketing on a regular basis.  Finally I will have to look at my steps to creating my best network marketing year from time to time to see if I need to make any adjustments or look for more help.

Step 7 To Creating My Best MLM Year

The seventh step to creating my best network marketing year is to lay out what kind of time commitment will be required from me to achieve this goal and how to schedule this into my calendar.  For me- I will have to devote a certain number of hours per week devoted to learning new skills or improving existing ones.  I will also have to devote time to other activities such as; article writing, blog posting, website creation, autoresponder messages, pay per click, and probably a few other things that I will figure out along the way in order to grow my home based business and attract prospects to me.  I also have to make sure that I stick with the proven strageties that I have been using and make cold calls.

Step 8 To Creating My Best MLM Year

Step eight to creating my best network marketing year is to define anything that I need to let go of or manage better in order to have the time available to reach my goal.  For me- I have to let go of my need to have positive results right away and my need to control every situation.  I recognize that I am a control freak and like to have everything a certain way.  At times this comes in handy (I always know where my keys are) but I know that there are times when this trait hurts my business.

Step 9 To Creating My Best MLM Year

Step nine to creating my best network marketing year is to list others that I can ask to hold me accountable for doing what I say I will do.  For me- I have a mastermind group and we get together every week and hold each others feet to the fire.  I also have a couple of other people that I have enlisted to help me with this step.

Step 10 To Creating My Best MLM Year

The tenth step to creating my best network marketing year is to list the consequences of not following my plan.  These are kind of personal but I an going to share them with you anyway.  For me- If I don’t follow my plan I will feel like a failure, I won’t be able to enjoy my business, I will feel resentful and angry because I haven’t done what I said I was going to do and I will strip myself of the joy and excitement of having a successful home based business.  In the past I have put my network marketing business on hold in order to put other’s need ahead of my own and while I love helping others, I hate that I didn’t keep the promises that I made to myself.

Step 11 To Creating My Best MLM Year 

The final step to creating my best network marketing year is to define what reward I can give myself for following my plan and achieving my goal.  This one is very personal and this time I am keeping it a secret.  But there is a rule to this step – you have to make it fun!

How old is the mlm company?

The age of the company should be looked at, when it comes to residual income; you want one that has been around for a while.

Does the product have exclusivity?

That doesn’t mean that it’s a product that is brand new to the market. You don’t have to be first or even one of the first. If you present a product or service that has never been done before, you actually have a lot more risk than when you have a product that has been proven. An older proven product with a new twist however, can be a great thing. If your product is patented or has a patent pending, that is a great way to go. The same goes with technology.

Is the basis of the network marketing product have something to do with love, health, or wealth?

Is it something that a prospect would seek you out for or do you have to do a lot of explaining to get the prospect to understand? There are primarily 3 product categories that you can base your business on; Health, Wealth, and Love. Products that fit into the health or love categories are easier to sell because they are emotionally based. People will buy them because they want better health or more love. The wealth category is going to be your toughest sell.

Can you be passionate about the product?

Is it a great product or is your passion coming from the idea of making money with your product. If your passion is because of the opportunity rather than the product-you may want to take notice. You should be passionate about your product because it works not because it makes you a ton of money. If you have the passion for the product, your prospects will also have a passion for the product and it will show up in the form of good commission checks.

Is the compensation plan sufficient enough to provide you with actual money?

You should absolutely consider the compensation plan. It shouldn’t make or break your decision but it should be factored in. A good rule of thumb is to find a compensation plan that pays out at least 20% on the dollar. At the top level your compensation plan should be paying out around 40%. Better than that is great, but don’t get blinded by the money. If a mlm company is paying something like 70% in compensation, then you may want to ask yourself why.

What is the credibility of the network marketing company?

This is a critical point. It should be about the product, the management, and the reputation. Is the product legitimate? Does it have science or physical proof behind it? Does the management behind the company know what they are doing? Who are the CEOs, the managers? What are their backgrounds? What is the reputation of the network marketing company as a whole? Check the background of any mlm company your are thinking for joining.

Does the network marketing company have integrity?

This is different than the credibility of the company in that you need to be concerned with your mlm company’s compliance in the network marketing industry.

What are the terms, conditions, policies, and procedures of the mlm company?

How restrictive is your network marketing company. As a network marketer you want the most leeway. However, not everyone has the integrity that they should have. So you do need to have terms that are restrictive enough to protect you from idiots in the mlm industry. Please read the contract and make sure it is something you can live with.

You are now armed with some information that could assist you in choosing a network marketing business.

Try not to get overwhelmed with all the choices that are available. Take a look at yourself and find out what kind of things you like. For example: if you are the type of person that gets excited about new technology, then you may want to focus on those types of businesses that offer new technology products or an older product with a new spin. If you are health conscious, then start looking into the health and wellness products and companies.

Go through the 8 factors for how to choose a network marketing business and note which ones are most important to you. Once you have this done, then check out what’s out there. Take your time and go through the network marketing company and make sure that you get your questions answered.

If you are already in a home-based business and it doesn’t seem to be going as well as you had planned and you truly believe in the business and the product, then maybe you just need to develop some network marketing skills. I’m not talking about how to approach your warm market or buying some fancy expensive MLM leads. I mean – maybe you need to learn the art and science of network marketing. Bugging your uncle to buy your skin cream and join your business may not be the best way to grow your home based business.
